Filter bags for aluminium and non-ferrous plants, baghouse by baghouse.
Alumina calciners run hot, so they usually use fibreglass or P-84 filter bags; smelter pot-line fume treatment uses polyester or aramid. Fluoride in smelter gas attacks fibreglass, so glass is avoided there. Aluminium and non-ferrous metals, including copper, zinc and lead, are core Masturlal industries.
Media by baghouse
| Baghouse | Conditions | Media to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| Alumina calciner | Hot gas, fine alumina dust | Fibreglass (reverse-air) or P-84 |
| Smelter fume treatment | Fluoride-bearing fume | Polyester or aramid (not fibreglass) |
| Copper, zinc and lead smelting | Hot fume, acid components | Aramid, PPS or P-84 |
| Material handling | Ambient, abrasive | Polyester |
This is a starting point. The final choice depends on measured temperature, moisture, gas chemistry and the cleaning system.
Things that shorten bag life here
- Hydrofluoric acid attacks glass fibre, so avoid fibreglass where fluoride is present.
- Fine metal fume needs a smooth surface for clean release.
What Masturlal supplies
- Pulse-jet, reverse-air and shaker filter bags made in-house
- Filter cages, venturis and Goyen and Mecair pulse valves
- Installation, leak testing, bag autopsy and maintenance contracts
What to send for a quote
- Collector type (pulse-jet, reverse-air or shaker) and the collector drawing
- Bag diameter, length, top and bottom construction, and quantity
- Continuous and peak gas temperature
- Dust chemistry, moisture, acid dew point and particle size
- Current bag specification, bag life and differential pressure
- Emissions target
Questions, answered.
Which filter bags are used in aluminium and non-ferrous plants?
It depends on the baghouse. See the table above: each location has a different temperature and dust, so different media.
Does Masturlal supply plants outside India?
Yes. About 30–35% of turnover is exports, mainly to the Middle East, Bangladesh and Southeast Asia, with installations in 40+ countries.
Send us your dust profile.
Temperature, chemistry, moisture, particle size and your emissions target. An application engineer replies within one working day, usually with a media specification within two.
