Polyester filter bags, up to 150 °C.
Polyester needle felt is the general-duty filter bag media for dry gas up to 150 °C continuous. It is economical, resists abrasion well and suits most cement mill, packing, crusher and process dedusting baghouses. It is not suitable for hot, moist gas, where it loses strength through hydrolysis. Masturlal makes polyester felt in-house, including hydrolysis-resistant and anti-static variants.
- Continuous temperature
- up to 150 °C
- Variants
- Standard, hydrolysis-resistant, anti-static
- Collectors
- Pulse-jet, reverse-air, shaker
- Surface option
- Ultra-microfibre layer
Where it works
- Dry gas below 150 °C
- Abrasive mineral dust such as cement, limestone and sand
- Packing plants, cement mills and crusher dedusting
- Shaker and low-energy collectors (lofted felt)
Where to avoid it
- Hot, moist gas: polyester hydrolyses and loses strength
- Strong alkalis
- Continuous operation above 150 °C
Typical applications
Cement mills, packing plants, crushers, fertiliser, food, milling and grain, sawmills and MDF, foundry shakeout, asphalt.
How it compares
| Fibre | Continuous temperature | Strengths | Watch out for | Typical duty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polyester | up to 150 °C | Low cost, good abrasion resistance | Hydrolysis in hot, moist gas | Cement mills, packing, crushers, general dedusting |
| PPS (Ryton) | up to 190 °C | Resists acids and alkalis | Oxidation at high O₂ | Coal-fired boilers, waste incineration |
| Meta-aramid (Nomex class) | up to 204 °C | Strong, abrasion resistant | Acid attack and hydrolysis | Asphalt, foundry, cement raw mills |
| P-84 polyimide | up to 240 °C | Trilobal fibre, fine-dust capture | Hydrolysis in very moist gas; cost | Cement kilns, waste-to-energy |
| Fibreglass | up to 260 °C | Highest temperature, chemically stable | Flex and abrasion; needs a finish | Reverse-air kilns, calciners, furnaces |
| Ultra-microfibre surface (13–15 µm) | set by base fibre | ≤5 mg/Nm³ with low pressure drop | Must be specified to the dust | Any of the above where emissions matter |
What to send for a recommendation
- Collector type (pulse-jet, reverse-air or shaker) and the collector drawing
- Bag diameter, length, top and bottom construction, and quantity
- Continuous and peak gas temperature
- Dust chemistry, moisture, acid dew point and particle size
- Current bag specification, bag life and differential pressure
- Emissions target
Questions, answered.
What temperature can polyester filter bags take?
Up to 150 °C continuous in dry gas. Short peaks slightly above this are tolerated, but sustained operation above 150 °C shortens bag life.
What is polyester hydrolysis?
Hot water vapour breaks down polyester fibres, so bags become brittle and tear early. It happens in moist gas at high temperature. Hydrolysis-resistant polyester or PPS is used instead.
Are anti-static polyester bags needed?
They are recommended for combustible dust such as coal, flour or wood dust, where static build-up could ignite the dust.
